If you are interested in a Maremma puppy from us …
First, please visit the Maremma Sheepdog Club Website , to learn more about the Maremma Sheepdog. They are first and foremost a working dog and best suited and most happy guarding livestock, not as indoor family pets.
We breed for temperament, ability, and health. We are members of the Maremma Sheepdog Club of America and breed only occasionally. We put a lot of time, attention, and energy in raising well rounded LGD puppies.
All puppies are raised in a loving environment, observed and handled daily, and exposed to children, a variety of livestock (goats, chickens, cats, dogs, horses, and our Mini Jersey), and daily farm and family life throughout their first 8 weeks. They are given their first shots, dewormed, microchipped, vet checked and temperament tested prior to being released to their new homes. We also furnish a written health guarantee, pedigrees, registration, as well as ongoing support for new owners.
You can expect to pay $650-$1200 for a Purebred Maremma Sheepdog from Swift Family Farm.
Selecting your Livestock Guardian…….
We do our best to select the best possible home for our puppies based on each puppy’s instinct, abilities, temperament and conformation, and the desires of the prospective owner. We have the best interest of the puppy in mind when placing them in homes and want to ensure a good fit for both the puppy and the new owner.
Temperament is always considered first and foremost. We will want to know what type of livestock you have, how large an area and what type of terrain the dog will be expected to patrol, type of fencing, neighbors vs. remote location, children in the family, companion or strictly guardian. All these factors play a huge role in choosing the right puppy. The puppies are temperament tested at 7 weeks and placement selection is done between 8 and 10 weeks of age.
